WITH just two games to play, there is all to play for in the Mens League.
All but a couple of the nine divisions are to be decided in the last two fixtures.
Top Division One teams, Holcombe Brook and South College A, beat lower table opponents.
Such is the supremacy that Ellesmere A ruefully commented on this week's match card that the result against Holcombe Brook SC A opponents was in doubt right up to the second set. They drew the first set and then were wiped off the board, managing to take only 13 out of the remaining 48 games.
South College A had a much harder match in prospect against third placed Markland Hill A, but managed to stay right up with the Brook with a creditable 7.5-1.5 win.
Down at the foot of Division One, Walmer A made a last gasp attempt to avoid the chop with a useful 5.5-3.5 win over South College B.
This win should have brought them level with Hawkshaw A who faced a difficult match against Tyldesley A the only team this year to beat Holcombe Brook SC A.
However, Hawkshaw A were having none of it and a superb 6.5-2.5 victory kept them out of danger.
Lostock A came close to losing their unbeaten Division Two record when third placed Next Generation (Chorley) A mounted a stiff challenge.
The final score was a 5-4 win for Lostock and the match card shows that there was little difference between the two teams other than Lostock had all three couples score and Next Generation had two couples only who won games.
