I might well agree with your correspondent 'Patriot' on some of the things which are wrong with this country.
But it is difficult to have a useful exchange of views with someone who dismisses our education, health and law systems as being in ruin ('Precious little to be proud of in a land not fit for heroes', Letters, September 29)
I don't know that a record number of people are emigrating: I do, however recall certain well-known individuals who said they would do if a Labour government got in - they are still here.
The main moan of such people tends to be alleged over-taxation, a view which 'Patriot' shares.
In fact, the old chestnut about Britain being a specially highly-taxed country has rarely, if ever, won true, though if 'Patriot' thinks our public services are in a ruinous state, should not he/she be suggesting we stump up the money to rebuild them?
