ATHERTON LR face a long midweek trip to Middlesborough to replay their FA Vase tie after being held 1-1 at home by Marske United.
Two controversial free kicks led to the goals. After 12 minutes LR were awarded a free kick just outside the area, the ball was knocked to Craig Doyle and while most people expected him to cross, he hit a low hard drive into the net.
Markse's equaliser came from a free kick inside LR's area given for a back pass to keeper Liam Wright. Despite a packed goalline, the ball was squared to Lee Blythway who blasted into the top of the net.
Although Marske had the edge for most of the game, there was little excitement as both defences worked hard and chances were at a premium.
In injury time Marske were reduced to 10 men after one of their players reacted to comments from a spectator but it made little difference to the outcome.
