LEIGH RMI have signed former Manchester City striker Adie Mike as they look for one big push towards the Final Qualifying Round of the FA Cup.

Thirty-one-year-old Mike has never settled with a club since leaving Maine Road with only 16 first-team appearances under his belt back in August 1995.

And after spells with Stockport, Doncaster Rovers and Northwich Victoria, the front man heads to Hilton Park with the aim of pilotting Andy Nelson's men beyond the challenge of Gainsborough Trinity on Saturday (1pm kick-off).

"The signing shows that we can still attract quality players to Leigh to go with the ones that we already have", said RMI chairman Bill Taylor.

"We need a good cup run and we know what we're up against in Gainsborough, because we lost to them last month.

"But we've learned the lessons now and hope to push us one step closer to another run like the ones that took us to Fulham and Millwall in the last decade", he added.

Andy Nelson's men did crash to a 2-1 reverse to Lincolnshire side Gainsborough on September 3 but Trinity have a history at Leigh as dreadful as their home form is superb.

But Trinity boss Paul Mitchell has personal experience of dumping Leigh out of the cup, having achieved an upset in charge of Worksop Town in 2001.

"We're not looking further than this game", continued Chairman Taylor.

"But if we were to concentrate, play well and get through, then who knows what good things could be around the corner.

"We've had a very good response from fans this season so far and this could be the catalyst for more - the FA Cup is a very special competition."

If the game is drawn on Saturday, there will be a replay at Northolme on Tuesday night (7:45pm), played to a finish by extra-time and penalty kicks if necessary.
