WIGAN boss Paul Jewell said the derby victory against Wanderers was another major scalp for his side - and shrugged off suggestions that their opponents were suffering from a European hangover.
Goals from the outstanding Henri Camara and Lee McCulloch were enough to hoist the Latics into eighth place in the Premier League, and earn them a first victory over their near neighbours for 15 years.
A delighted Jewell said after the game that his side knew they had been in a battle.
"We knew they would come at us, and they did not disappoint us," said Jewell."But I thought we played on the break very well, right to the end. Credit to the players, it's another major scalp for us.
"People might say it was a good time to be playing them after the European game, but they looked fresh when they were throwing everything at us at the end."
The chief tormentor on the afternoon was Senegal striker Henri Camara - a player who had attracted interest from Wanderers before his summer move to the JJB.
Camara's pace and movement on the wing caused major problems all afternoon, but his manager believes few Premiership sides could live with him in full flow.
"He's got a great skill of just nicking the ball past people," said Jewell."He commits people and when he runs, he is as quick as anyone in the Premier League."
Jewell also revealed that Pascal Chimbonda was withdrawn after receiving a dead leg following a strong challenge from Kevin Davies.
