WIGAN ATHLETIC 2, Wanderers 1: Boss Sam Allardyce reflected on a derby setback that prevented Wanderers from going second in the Premiership table and said: "I put defeat down to basic defending going wrong, which I did not expect.
"We should have kept it nice and tight, kept it at 0-0.
"If we had done that then the amount of chances we created might have brought us something more.
"After going 2-0 down we created a huge amount of chances but there was not enough quality finishing in their box."
Second-half goals from Henri Camara and Lee McCulloch put Wigan in front before Rhadi Jaidi pulled one back for Wanderers.
