I PASSED the old general Post Office building in Crompton Street not long ago and a lady who was posting a letter there said: "They should never have moved from here in the first place".
I think most of the people of Bury would agree with her.
The question is, why did they abandon this beautiful building in the first place?
We are told that it is now owned by Scottish Widows but they don't seem to be doing much with it. It probably needs some renovation. If the Post Office could regain possession, would this cost much more than a temporary 13 metre (about 42 feet) cabin that will have to be removed in six months, if the council has its way?
Is a return to Crompton Street too simple a solution?
I'm sure the majority of people in Bury would welcome it.
