THE traffic chaos at the Heap Bridge roundabout is becoming a total gridlock at times.
The only apparent action already taken is to install a tiny yellow box junction which is largely ignored and tinkering with the traffic lights sequence timings to no avail.
The source of the main backlog appears to be traffic attempting to exit on the A58 toward Bury town centre.
Traffic backs up from the Heywood Street lights down to the roundabout. The bus lane on Rochdale Road is empty and is a major contributor to the chaos.
When the roundabout is choked and little or nothing moves over several changes of the lights, buses also do not move. Why not suspend the bus lane ruling and see if this low-cost opportunity to improve traffic flow helps?
