From the Guide files of Thursday, April 3, 1980: Plans to build sheltered housing accommodation at Elms Farm, Whitefield, were approved by the Housing and Environmental Committee at a cost of £925, 700 in order to house 99 people.
A 15-year-old Whitefield youth was fined £37 after pleading guilty to seven motoring offences at Bury Juvenile Court. The boy was also ordered to pay £5 court costs.
Members of Besses United Reformed Church launched a project to raise £750 to buy a phonic ear to help the educational development of deaf children.
Artist and book illustrator Pat Hutchins visited Whitefield Community Hall as part of the Greater Manchester Booklark Festival. Highlights included colourful drawings of an owl.
The Whitefield and District Amateur Operatic Society planned the presentation of Cinderella at Besses oth Barn United Reformed Church, Whitefield, to entertain bored children during Easter school holidays.
