From the Guide files of Friday, January 11, 1980: ROTARY'S reindeer managed to raise £525 for charity.
The Rotary Club of Prestwich and Whitefield toured the area before Christmas with their festive sleigh and collected cash for local good causes.
l A WHITEFIELD-BASED anti-smoking organisation launched a campaign to help young people kick the habit. North West ASH, based at the Uplands Health Centre, aimed their young forum at 15-year-olds and older.
l VANDALS wreaked havoc at Prestwich Conservative Clubs bowling hut. They broke in, damaged furniture and smashed water pipes which flooded the building.
l AROUND 150 members gathered for the second anniversary party of Our Lady of Grace Over 60s Club. Entertainment with songs from the shows was performed by Mrs Dorothy Dolan and Mrs Peggy Catlow, with Mr Jack Colam on piano.
l BURYS first festival of magic went on show at the Longfield Suite in Prestwich. Acts included mind reading, pick-pocket and disappearing motorbikes.
