From the Guide files, June 8, 1979: PRESTWICH Catholic Club had their licence cancelled after selling drinks to non-members. Police raided the premises and found that 22 non-members were drinking there.
PHOTOGRAPHS that had featured in the Guide were being sold for 70p for a 8ins by 6ins print.
GRANADA Television spent three days filming at Heaton Hall, Prestwich, for the 1980 epic "Brideshead Revisted".
The five-part adaptation of Evelyn Waugh's novel was described as "the largest scale film serial production for British television".
A COUPLE of pints of Boddingtons bitter kept cellarman John Brickles going on his sponsored walk from Blackpool to Manchester.
John (38), of Scholes Walk, Prestwich, took just over 15 hours to complete the 50-mile walk -- with just a couple of stops at the pub on the way.
FOR the second year running, Mr Henry Donn, of Whitefield was installed as Master of the NW Branch of the Fine Art Trade Guild. Mr Donn, a former councillor, was proprietor of the Henry Donn Gallery in Bury New Road.
