From the Guide files of Friday, November 16, 1979: ACTRESS Joan Collins starred in her sister's creation The Bitch at the Mayfair Cinema in Whitefield. Joan's sister, Jackie, was the family's author and the X-rated film was based on her popular novel.
l WATERLOGGED pitches caused the postponement of three of Standians fixtures and it was the Fourth XI who were left to carry the club flag in an away fixture with Aldermere A. Unfortunately, Stand's youngsters came home defeated 4-1 despite a spirited performance.
l PRESTWICH Band spent £450 on replacing a stolen euphonium. The instrument was stolen from the bands headquarters earlier in the year.
l A PRESTWICH firm promised to keep a watchful eye on festive thieves in the run up to Christmas. Securivision, a closed-circuit specialist, had supplied hundreds of shops with tv cameras in a bid to cut down on thefts.
l OFFICE staff took on factory staff at Cussons of Kersal Vale in a friendly football match. The white collar workers beat the factory hands 6-2 and raised money for charity at the same time.
