Taken from the Guide files of Friday, April 11, 1980: CORONATION Street star Peter Adamson (Len Fairclough) saw his son Richie marry a Prestwich lass. The wedding took place at Walmersley Parish Church, in Bury, between Richie and Miss Paula Watkiss, of Rainsough Close, Prestwich.
A VILLAGE turned out in force to protest about a development. Around 250 Simister residents attended a meeting at Lady Wilton Hall to protest against the appeal by the Wilton Estate to convert the barn at Cambershaw Farm into three town houses.
FIREMEN from three stations averted a potential explosion in Whitefield. A grass fire had spread to Stanley Road Industrial Estate and ignited one of two tanks which stored heating oil but the fire crews quick action saw the blaze brought under control.
PRESTWICH Heys were beaten for the fifth time in a row by the odd goal. Prescot B.I beat Heys 2-1 on home turf at Grimshaws, continuing the run of bad luck for the boys.
HOW prices have risen! The Guide ran a short message to readers informing them of a rise in photograph costs. It read: "Owing to the rising costs of photographic materials, prices of originals of pictures in the Guide will be increased to 90p plus VAT." Now a print will cost you £8.50.
