Re the St Helena development. I agree with the comments made by Brian Tetlow, especially about the outdoor cafe.
I can't see Boltonians sitting out in the middle of January enjoying a drink and a meal.
Apart from a few days a year, an outdoor cafe would be useless. I thought the artists impression made Bolton seem just like any other town. It was faceless.
We should be preserving our historical buildings and areas. Sweetens bookshop is one of the most well-known shops in Bolton - one of the few that hasn't been turned into a pound shop or another pub.
One of the attractions of Sweetens is that it's housed in such an old building. I'm not against development and progress, but not at the cost of established businesses and historical buildings.
It's bad enough that there is a fast food place on Churchgate, of all places. Something should be done about the eyesore that was formerly the Canon cinema and to save the former Odeon building.
