Further to the letter printed in Monday's Bolton Evening News (September 26) regarding Bolton at Homes three star success.

I would like to bring to the attention of your readers the following facts. The Audit Commission is a recognised independent organisation, authorised by the government to inspect public bodies such as Bolton at Home to ensure they spend their funding appropriately and offer good value for money.

The Audit Commission's Housing Inspectorate are specialists who work exclusively in the housing industry the length and breadth of the country.

Bolton at Home gave the inspectors free access to all officers, offices and customers for two weeks. The Housing Inspectorate then chose which estates, locations and meetings to attend. We hoped they would recognise that the services we provide are excellent and, of course, they did.

During the inspection, the Audit Commissions specialist staff visited many estates including Breightmet, Tonge, Farnworth, Great Lever, Westhoughton and Deane, to discuss the type and finished quality of work undertaken as part of the improvements.

The Housing Inspectorate chose which customers they wished to interview, and knocked on many doors at random.

The customer response was positive, which helped towards Bolton at Home being recognised as an excellent housing provider by the Audit Commission Housing Inspectorate the only three star organisation in the North-west.

Bolton at Home offers a number of opportunities for customers to support our work. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please contact Gill Tuke on 01204 335645.
