I WAS furious when I received yet another proposal from Bolton Council to impose a chicane and road humps along Cherwell Road and nearby cul-de-sacs.
Having had to endure a serious reduction in the domestic refuse collection service, Bolton Council are now planning a pointless and expensive scheme which will benefit nobody, in an effort to solve a non-existent problem. This is unacceptable.
If there was a problem with a few speeding motorists on Cherwell Road, Westhoughton, then the situation has now resolved itself with the on-road parking of new residents vehicles, causing a general speed reduction.
There has never been a serious accident on Cherwell Road, so where is this pressing safety issue?
Finally, vehicles travelling at 20mph will emit approximately 10 times more nitrogen dioxide, three times more carbon monoxide, and 25 per cent more carbon dioxide. Noise levels will also increase.
Therefore this scheme becomes environmentally unfriendly and a dangerous nuisance, and will cause road rage in the vicinity. This plan must be rejected.
