RAaiders smashed the front of a mobile phone shop and threatened a man with a brick during an attempted burglary.
The incident happened shortly before 8am on Wednesday, when three men used a Suzuki Vitari 4x4 to reverse into The Phone Shop in Bury New Road, Prestwich.
They managed to get into the shop, but police do not yet know if anything was stolen.
The men abandoned the vehicle and escaped in a black BMW, which they left in Lowther Road. They were then seen to get into another car and drive off.
A short time later, traffic officers saw a white Citroen Saxo driving at high speed along Bury New Road, turning left on to Cheetham Street East.
Officers followed the car on to Centurian Grove in Salford, where the front passenger got out and ran away. The driver then reversed into the police car.
The remaining men got out of the Citroen and were chased by the police.
When they caught up with them, a struggle broke out and one officer was slightly injured.
One of the men, an 18-year-old from Salford, was arrested on suspicion of burglary.
