FC United of Manchester assistant manager Phil Power is delighted with the way his side are being looked after at Bury's Gigg Lane ground, writes Marc Higginson.

The former Crewe and Macclesfield striker believes playing at a League ground has helped inspire his players to top-of-the-table.

He said: "I have to say that the facilities at Gigg Lane are fantastic and it gives the players a huge boost when they are playing there every week.

"We couldn't ask for anything more and I think even the opposition players enjoy coming to face us at Gigg because, for most players at this level, they haven't played at a ground as big as Gigg Lane."

The club, set up by disgruntled Manchester United fans in response to the Malcolm Glazer takeover of the Old Trafford Club, have stormed to the top of the North West Counties Second Division and boast an average crowd of 2,247 - in contrast to league rivals Flixton's average crowd of 24.

However, they suffered their first defeat of the season when they were beaten 2-1 by Norton United last weekend - a result Power wants to put behind the team as soon as possible.

"It was very disappointing to lose and it has been coming because we have been playing poorly for a few weeks now.

"I think a little bit of complacency had crept in and we have had a little natter with the lads to let them know this.

"We know we are not going to win every game but the team set a high standard early on in the season and now they need to try and get upto that as often as possible.

"Our next chance to put it right is at home to Oldham Town next Wednesday."
