NO one was more relieved that Wanderers rescued the UEFA Cup tie against Lokomotiv Plovdiv than Stelios Giannakopoulos, whose mistake handed Georgi Iliev the chance to give Lokomotiv the lead.
In an emotional post-match admission, the Greek midfielder admitted his error and thanked his team-mates for saving his blushes.
"I would like to apologise to the chairman, the board of directors, the manager, my team-mates and the fans," he said.
"Because it was my mistake that led to their goal.
"My team-mates rallied round me, telling me to keep my head up and, in the end, it worked with a great win for Bolton Wanderers.
"I must thank my team-mates for helping me through it."
