SO, Bolton Council is to give the town a multi-million pound facelift. Up to a point, I welcome this, as perhaps will many other townsfolk, who will agree there are certain areas that do require refurbishment.
But please, not at the expense of long-standing and popular businesses and establishments.
Bolton is an old town, which was first mentioned in the Domesday Book, granted a charter in the 13th century and figured quite prominently during the Civil War.
It has some fine attractions, patronised by local people as well as the thousands of visitors we entertain every year: the Man and Scythe, Smithills Hall and Hall ith Wood, to mention a few. The Parish Church and the Civic Centre also spring to mind.
Yes, by all means bring us into the 21st Century, but please dont spoil our town.
