BRUNO N'Gotty left for Bulgaria on Wednesday determined to prevent Wanderers becoming one-tie wonders in Europe.
The big Frenchman, who won the European Cup Winners Cup with Paris St Germain, believes too much effort went into qualifying for the UEFA Cup for the Whites to fall at the first hurdle.
The target from the outset has been to make the group stages but Wanderers know they will have their work cut out against Lokomotiv Plovdiv in Burgas on Thursday afternoon, holding just a 2-1 lead from the first leg, and with their defence decimated by injuries.
N'Gotty is experienced enough to respect all opponents but he has no intention of letting the Bulgarians spoil his fun.
"Europe is very important for the team and for me," he said. "We worked hard in the league last season to give ourselves a chance to play in the UEFA Cup, and we want to go as far as we can. And we want to qualify again next season.
"This competition is good for us and for the supporters. There could be some big games against some big clubs, if we progress, so we've got to try to push on."
N'Gotty, who scored the winning goal for PSG in their Cup Winners Cup Final against Rapid Vienna in 1996, set his sights on a return to Europe when he arrived at the Reebok from Marseilles in August 2001 - a transfer that paved the way for a succession of big name continental imports that have helped Sam Allardyce transform Wanderers from Premiership strugglers to European contenders in just four seasons.
Vastly experienced and highly respected, the former France international has been around long enough to know the danger of underestimating any opponent and Plovdiv - well-organised, technically accomplished and tactically astute, judging by their performance at the Reebok - are no exception.
"They played well," he said. "That was the first time we had seen them play and they impressed us.
"But, now that we know how they play, we can hopefully get the same result as we did in the first leg.
"We will respect them in the same way we respect every team, but we will be pushing hard to make sure we don't lose the game and qualify for the next phase.
"It's going to be a difficult game - every game in Europe is difficult - but we know that if we don't concede a goal, it will be enough.
"Hopefully, we will come back with a win and qualification."
