EAGLEY went down 2-1 to local rivals Charnock Richard in the West Lancashire Premier Division.

The Villagers can count themselves unlucky as they dominated proceedings throughout and finally went down to a hotly disputed penalty in the 89th minute.

Eagley opened brightly and went ahead on 23 minutes when Matty Swailes volleyed into the top corner following Clint McCloughlin's cross from the left. More chances came and Chris Longthorn went close twice before half time.

In the second period, the Villagers continued to dominate, but on 85 minutes they conceded a penalty following a defender handling on the line. Mark Critchley converted to put Charnock level.

Almost immediately, Eagley were denied an almost certain spot kick when Carl Grimshaw was upended in the box, but with the referee waving play-on Charnock went upfield and, with only a minute remaining, they were awarded a hotly disputed penalty which Critchley converted to give his side the points.
