A TEENAGER whose life was tragically cut short in a road accident was remembered on Monday.
Family and friends, many of whom were dressed in bright colours, gathered at West Chapel at Overdale Crematorium, to celebrate the life of Daniel Fitton, aged 18.
The simple funeral service reflected the young student's popularity, and hundreds of mourners filled the chapel and over-flowed outside.
Daniel died after falling from a Peugeot scooter he was riding along Albert Road, Farnworth, earlier this month. He is thought to have clipped the kerb near the Texaco petrol station at 9.25pm.
The impact is believed to have thrown him from the bike, dislodging his helmet as he fell to the ground and he suffered serious head injuries. He was taken to Royal Bolton Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
His family including his mother Janet, stepfather Trevor, sister Jenna aged 17, and twin brother and sister Curtis and Chloe, aged nine, were joined by other family members and friends to share memories of the teenager whom the Rev Cherry Vann described as "full of life."
In a moving sermon she said: "How do we begin to make sense of this tragedy. The anguish and pain reflects the love for Daniel. Daniel has gone leaving an emptiness which can never be filled. The numbers of people expressing their grief shows how much we cared for Daniel."
But she urged mourners to cling on to the memories they had of Daniel, who had been an information technology at Heywood College student .
"They will comfort you in the days ahead. Daniel was fun loving, free-spirited. He was a typical teenager. His untimely death reminds us life is a gift."
The service ended with the release of white balloons by family members in memory of the teenager. Afterwards mourners gathered to view the dozens of wreaths and floral tributes to Daniel, one spelling out Grandson, and others simply saying Dan.
After the tragedy friends and family went to the scene of Daniel's death, leaving flowers, cards and ribbons tied to a street sign outside the garage.
A two minute silence in memory of Daniel was also held at his former school, Little Lever Secondary.
