TEAATES held a minute's silence in tribute to promising teenage footballer Daniel Young who collapsed and died during a match shortly after scoring a goal.
Members of his Atherton Laburnum Rovers under-17s team stood with bowed heads before the clubs first team home match on Saturday, and all wore tops bearing the name "Youngy", Daniel's nickname. The club were playing Maine Road at Crilly Park, Spa Road, Atherton - the first match since 16-year-old Daniel, of Tyldesley Road, Hindsford, died on Sunday last week.
Daniel, a Bolton Wanderers fan, was playing in midfield for the club against Bolton Lads Club at Tyldesley Rugby Club when he collapsed from a suspected heart attack.
News of Daniel's death has been placed on the club's website, with the chairman writing: "Danny had not been with Atherton LR long but he had made a big and lasting impact at the club. He was a big bright bubble who had burst on to the scene of football."
Daniel, a former pupil of Fred Longworth High School, Tyldesley, had started studying sports science at Pendleton College.
