THE funeral of 16-year-old Daniel Young, who collapsed and died during a football match, will be held on Monday at 11am at Howe Bridge Crematorium, Atherton.
The devastated family of Daniel have said anyone attending his funeral can wear football shirts to celebrate his life and love of soccer.
The talented teenager died on the pitch just minutes after scoring a goal for Atherton Laburnum Rovers Under-17s against Bolton Lads Club. It was his first match for the team.
Despite the efforts of match officials and paramedics, who drove on to the pitch at Tyldesley Rugby Club and gave him emergency treatment, Daniel, of Tyldesley Road, Hidsford, Atherton, could not be revived.
The match was abandoned and shocked players later returned to the pitch to pay their respects. Friends and family left football shirts and flowers at the scene.
Daniel, a former pupil of Fred Longworth High School, Tyldesley, was a keen Bolton Wanderers fan and had been a match day mascot when he was younger.
