THE tables were turned when police officers took part in a jailbreak and went on the run for charity.

Two teams of Bolton police officers, along with teams from Asda in Farnworth, took part in the jailbreak, which raised cash for local children's charities and the Fire Service National Benevolent Fund.

Armed with a mobile phone, a collection tin and just 20 pence, the officers escaped from a makeshift prison cell in the Asda store, and tried to get as far away from Farnworth as they could in 24 hours.

Each team of four had to raise a minimum of £300, which would be split between Fire Service, Police and Asda charities. Other "prisoners" taking part in the event remained in their cells until they raised a £70 release fee from customers and friends.

The cell was made by pupils from St James' CE Primary School.
