FRIENDS of Daniel Fitton, the teenager who died after being thrown from his scooter, are holding a tribute night for him.

Clare Topcu, the owner of Club RAC in Farnworth, where Daniel worked as a barman, is organising the event on Thursday to raise money to help his grief-stricken family.

Ms Topcu is urging as many people as possible to come along to the night, which will include a raffle and guest DJs.

She said: "I think at a time like this any family needs all the help they can get, and every little helps. If the community can support them, I just hope it makes them feel better in some small way.

"As well as being a very tragic time, it can also be an expensive time, with funerals and other arrangements. They aren't looking for charity, but I felt we should do something."

Daniel, a student, was killed after his scooter was thought to have clipped a kerb near the Texaco petrol station in Albert Road at 9.25pm on Saturday last week.

His mother Janet, described him as a loving and caring son who was full of life and popular.

Mr Topcu added: "Daniel held his eighteenth birthday at the club. He was a really popular lad, and had worked here for some time. He started as a glass collector and when he turned 18 moved on to the bar. He was well-liked by everyone here."

The bar staff at Club RAC are working for free at Thursday's event, which will start at 7pm and finish at 2am. His funeral is due to be held on Monday.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to the accident to contact them on 0161 856 7273 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
