May I ask who or what is the "Royal Mail" as far as Bury is concerned?
As everyone that reads the Bury Times is now aware, the general post office in the town centre closed in June. The Royal Mail bosses were aware of this at least six months before that.
Only now, three months after the closure are they submitting a planning application and detailed plans for the siting of a temporary facility next to Kay Gardens, to quote the report in the Bury Times of September 8. I envisage this as a rather flimsy cabin for Bury shoppers to use for the next six months. Then what? Another cabin in the sky?
Surely Royal Mail bosses havent forgotten the permanent building in Crompton Street? It even has two red pillar-boxes outside the door.
I would hope that Bury Council would want to know what is going to happen to that building before granting permission for a temporary facility.
Perhaps the good people of Bury could have the general post office back that they lost some years ago.
That would improve the popularity of the post office no end. It might make up a little for all the smaller post offices that have been closed in the Bury area.
