Several readers have invited local councillors to comment on a planning application for 18 flats on Blackburn Road / Stoneyhurst Avenue.
That I have not done so is not through any lack of interest.
Sadly, the government has tied my hands by denying councillors the right to speak before such a matter comes before the Planning Committee.
To offer an opinion means we are then debarred from speaking and voting on the matter.
This is a serious threat to the right of a councillor to speak out on behalf of objectors, but sadly we are forced to adhere to a code of conduct introduced by the government and imposed by Bolton Council.
For the record, I opposed the development as being too large and impacting too much on surrounding properties, as well as posing a risk of damage to many important trees.
Sad to say, too few councillors supported residents in their objections.
Many from other parts of Bolton could not see the issue.
I will be watching with interest to see that the conditions imposed are not breached.
