The letter from Mr and Mrs Darroch in Mondays Bolton Evening News about the playing fields plan at Hollands Nursery, Bromely Cross, saddens me greatly.
It is sad that some people are trying to link a just and noble defence of open land against a faceless developer 15 years ago with a community proposal to make best use of what remains of the community facility.
The actions 15 years ago were a magnificent defence of an amenity by local people against a profit-motivated developer. No one in their right mind would decribe those protestors as a vociferous minority and it is mischievous to suggest that I did!
How can you compare that scenario with a small, non-profit-making community football club trying to provide a facility for local children to enjoy some sporting activities?
The Barrat battle is well gone, and now we are where we are, Mr and Mrs Darroch. Give todays kids a chance to enjoy the remaining open space.
Make your stand of 15 years ago, and with the legacy you help protect, help make a real difference to the lives of our children and future children.
