A MOTHER has paid tribute to her eldest child who died in a road accident over the weekend.

Daniel Andrew Fitton, aged 18, was killed after falling from a Peugeot scooter he was riding along Albert Road in Farnworth, on Saturday evening.

He is thought to have clipped a kerb near the Texaco petrol station at 9.25pm.

The impact is believed to have thrown him from the bike, dislodging his helmet as he fell to the ground and he sustained serious head injuries.

A passing motorist called the emergency services. Daniel was taken to the Royal Bolton Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Daniel's mother Janet Fitton described him as "full of life and popular".

She said "Daniel was a loving and caring son. Daniel was so full of life and popular and touched the hearts of everyone he met.

"I can't believe what has happened. I'm totally devastated and our lives will never be the same again."

Daniel has a sister Jenna, aged 17, and twin brother and sister Chloe and Curtis, aged nine.

Daniel, who lived with his mother, stepfather Trevor, and his brothers and sisters in Brentwood Drive, Moses Gate, was an information technology student at Heywood College and was hoping to go to university next year.

His mother added: "Daniel loved playing computer games and football with his mates."

Since the accident, friends and family have been turning up at the scene leaving flowers, cards and ribbons tied to street sign outside the garage. Family and friends are planning a vigil in memory of Daniel.

A friend of Daniel's, Anthony Derbyshire, aged 20, said: "Daniel was the life and soul of the party. He was different and so special.

"He had his own way of doing things and kept people amused. He was like a big brother to all his friends and could really cheer people up.

"We are all going to miss him so much."

Anyone who witnessed the accident is asked to contact police on 0161 856 7273 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
