AN award-winning amateur theatre company has decided to celebrate its 70th anniversary with its most spectacular show ever, and a cash pledge for a local hospice.
Bolton Catholics Musical and Choral Society, which is producing the hit musical Chess at the Albert Halls from October 18 to 22, has promised to give £1,000 to Bolton Hospice from ticket sales.
The show, features famous hits such as I Know Him So Well and One Night In Bangkok
BCMCS spokesperson Sharron Knott said: "The society decided to celebrate its 70th anniversary by giving something back to the community and the audiences who have supported us over the years. All post show profits will go to the hospice. Even if we make a loss or break even BCMCS has pledged to donate £1,000 to the Hospice."
Fresh from its triumph at the Bolton Evening News 2005 Theatre Awards, where its last show Oklahoma scooped Best Musical, Best Choroegraphy and best Actor in a Musical, Chess is being produced by the same team of Barbara Grant, David Wilson and Rob Margolis, and features Scott Unsworth in one of the lead roles. The cast also features James Eccleshare who has been nominated for, and won awards for his work as Cornelius Hackle in Hello Dolly.
There will be an offstage choir, which boosts the total cast list to over 50.
Sharron said: "It will be a very expensive production. The scenery and staging will be spectacular and very high tech, though we dont want to say more as it will spoil the surprise."
BCMCS are proud that two members of its Youth Section, Louisa Unsworth and Louise Davenport, have joined the cast.
Tickets are available from the hospice by telephoning Pat Grady on 01204 856977 or 01254 671914.
