MANCHESTER City are determined not to get caught out by Wanderers' counter attacking style as they did the last time the teams met at the City of Manchester Stadium.

Wanderers were the last team to take maximum points from City on their own ground six months ago when El-Hadji Diouf tapped in the only goal.

City fell right into the Wanderers trap of soaking up pressure and catching teams on the break before closing the game out.

But they believe they have learned from their mistake and will be adopting different tactics to counter Wanderers' strengths on Sunday.

Midfielder Claudio Reyna says City boss Stuart Pearce is a great believer in changing his team's tactics depending on the opposition.

With Wanderers renowned for being brilliant at sitting back and making the opposition play on the break, City are unlikely to adopt an all out attacking policy on Sunday.

Reyna said: "The manager prepares us for games to give us the best chance to win.

"The players understand it because different teams have different strengths and styles. You have to play it a little bit different depending on who you are playing and we know that Bolton will be a very difficult game.

"But we are well prepared for every game we play. Down to every detail, each player knows what they have to do."

Pearce's meticulous approach to preparation is the cornerstone of City's superb start to a season in which they have carried on where they left off last term.

Last week's 1-1 derby draw at Old Trafford was their 13th Premiership match without defeat. If they avoid losing tomorrow, they will equal their second longest unbeaten run ever in the top flight.

If they manage it, however, they will still have a long way to match their longest unbeaten run of 22 matches set in the 1936-37 title-winning season.

City were in third place after three wins and two draws from their first five games.

They have been unconvincing at home, however, with a goalless opening day draw against West Brom and a nail-biting 2-1 victory over Portsmouth achieved only after going behind.

Following the loss of Shaun Wright-Phillips to Chelsea, City have reinvented themselves as a solid outfit with a strong will to win and team ethic.

The defence has maintained its impressive solidity of last season and Joey Barton has bounced back from his difficulties off the pitch to form a good partnership with the rejuvenated Reyna who has been City's man of the season so far.

Another player showing vastly improved form is Trevor Sinclair who is revelling after getting a chance on the right side of midfield, which had been denied him by Wright-Phillips' brilliance during the last two seasons.

City have not shown signs of being prolific scorers, with two goals the most they have scored in any game this season, but summer signings Andy Cole and Darius Vassell have gelled together instantly with three goals between them so far.
