THE red carpet will be out for a star-studded celebrity charity premiere of a major new football film in Bolton next week.
Stars from the film Goal! are due to appear at the premiere and special reception at Cineworld at the Valley entertainment complex in Bolton on Tuesday night.
They will be joined by members of the Bolton Wanderers and Wigan Athletic Premiership sides.
Goal!, directed by Danny Cannon and predicted to be one of the biggest screen hits of the season, follows a young Mexican illegal immigrant as he moves to the USA, dreams of being a professional footballer and eventually signs for Newcastle United, where he encounters the new challenges of fame and fortune in the Premiership
The lead role of footballer Santiago Munez is played by Kuno Becker, who starred in Imagining Argentina alongside Antonio Banderas and Emma Thompson.
Others starring in the film include former Brookside actress Anna Friel, Sean Pertwee, Kieran OBrien and Stephen Dillane.
It also features guest appearances from David Beckham, French World Cup winning captain Zinedine Zidane, former England footballer Alan Shearer and Spanish soccer star Raul. The footballing scenes were made more real by the fact that they were often shot at Premiership grounds, before games, at half-time and after matches.
A host of stars, including Ashes cricket hero Kevin Pieterson, England footballers Alan Shearer and Michael Owen, and Goal! actors Becker, Anna Friel and Alessandro Nivola, turned out for the London premiere on Thursday night. The film is being backed by the Kick It Out organisation, which aims to raise awareness through sport of the issue of racism, and invites have been sent to Wanderers stars such Jay-Jay Okocha, Jussi Jaaskelainen and Nicky Hunt.
Wanderers spokesman Danny Reuben said the club was delighted to be backing the Kick It Out campaign, and added: "Our first team has been invited to the Bolton premiere and hopefully some of them will be there.
"Kick It Out is a positive campaign for football and the film Goal! will prove to be a very popular film which will help to get the anti-racism message across, which is something we very much support. We are delighted to be involved."
Goal! opens at Cineworld at the Valley on September 30.
