I WOULD like to add my appreciation to the letter of Kevan Morris (September 10) and the tribute he made to the community of the Cross And Passion along with other of Mount St Joseph's was well deserved.
I was a pupil at St Mary's RC Primary School during the war years. Teaching was difficult then, the young nun who came to my class, known as Standard Seven, had a badly overcrowded class of rowdy 13-year-olds - we left school at 14 in those days. She diligently dealt with us and imparted a knowledge of many subjects.
My love of writing and poetry is due to her tuition, and has enabled me to win prizes including "Letter Of The Week" from the Bolton Evening News. Indeed the first one was a set of pens from the Mitsubishi sponsors which I sent to her, and I have had articles in books.
I am happily still writing to her after 64 years, and feel fortunate to have had her teach me, be headmistress to my family, as well as mentor and loyal friend.
Will today's children be lucky enough to be so inspired?
Thank you.
