RAMSBOTTOM professional Kartik Murali has signed for Lancashire for the rest of the season writes Marc Higginson

The all-rounder has just returned from a tour of Zimbabwe with the Indian squad and helped the Rams win the Worsley Cup earlier in the summer.

Lancashire Cricket Manager Mike Watkinson said: "The recent injury to Gary Keedy has limited our options in the spin department, and Kartik is a similar style bowler who will give us more depth for the remaining games of the season. We are glad that a player of his quality has joined us at such short notice."

And, Kartik was man-of-the-match in his first game for the Red Rose when he picked up five wickets in both innings of the County Championships game with Essex as Lancashire romped home by eight wickets to clinch promotion back to Division One.

Kartik has played in 8 Tests and 19 One-Day Internationals. He has taken 278 first-class wickets at an average of 26.17 with a best of 9 for 70 for the Rest of India v Mumbai in 2000.
