BABIES born in Fairfield Hospital's Special Care Baby Unit can spend their first few days in luxury thanks to a £40,000 refurbishment.
The unit has had its two isolation rooms transformed and redecorated along with the waiting and play areas, main corridor and the security system upgraded.
Members of the Fairfield Baby Lifeline Society (FBLS) have held fundraising events throughout the last three years to raise money for the work, along with donations from businesses and personal donations from parents with babies who have stayed on the ward.
The renovation follows the refurbishment of the breastfeeding room three years ago and the Mayor of Bury Councillor Steve Treadgold, who is patron of the society, was one of the first visitors to the unit to see the transformations for himself.
Sharron Entwistle, trustee of the society, said: "Before it looked really depressing and dull but now it has been brightened up and looks welcoming. We have spent a lot of money on equipment in the last year and next on the agenda is the main baby room."
