IN response to the letter ('Do We Have Cleaners?', September 1), as a resident of Hurst Street, Bury, I would like to add my comments that the amount of litter on the streets is unacceptable.
The council do come around regularly and clean the streets, both front and back, but within a few days, the litter is back. I have seen children hitting one another with empty plastic bottles and then discarding them on the street in full view of their parents, who do nothing.
Children will play with anything they find and then discard it on the street. Empty bottles, polystyrene packaging, dado rails, iron bars and even old books. Parents need to be held responsible for the action of their children and make sure that rubbish is placed in the correct place or face the fine for their children's lack of respect for the place they live in.
SICK OF THE LITTER
