MAY I say how impressed I was at reading Councillor Wayne Campbell's stout leadership against the post office, in his attempt to obtain a replacement for the head post office, closed recently by Forbouys Ltd ('Outraged over the lack of a post office in the town centre of Bury', Letters, September 1).

If he had demonstrated such leadership in defence of the amenities of his Radcliffe electors which have been decemated over the years, I may have been one of his most ardent supporters instead of one of his most vociferous critics.

This does not detract however from his brilliant suggestion that the town hall be used.

If I may be so bold as to venture that if they were to staff it with council staff, of which to the casual observer we seem to have an abundance who mill around the town hall entrance area appearing to do little and in no hurry to do it, I feel the post office would find such an offer irresistible.

If however, they are not moved, then with a sense of community, may I suggest that the people of Bury use our meagre facility in Radcliffe town centre. After all, this could provide a fillip for the hard pressed Radcliffe traders and help in the regeneration of Radcliffe.
