STEVE Lester missed a late penalty for Atherton LR as they slumped to a disappointing defeat against Squires Gate.
Rovers took an early lead through Ian Knapman, but were pegged back just before the break when Mark Beattie rifled home from 15 yards out.
A defensive error then gifted the visitors a second goal when a headed backpass sold keeper Liam Wright well short, and Wayne Gardiner nipped in to lob his side into the lead.
Lester's tame penalty miss only served to compound a miserable day for Rovers, who face a trip to Newcastle Town on Tuesday night (7.45pm kick-off).
Atherton Colls were beaten 3-0 by Colne, with goals from James Hayes, Phil Close and Scott Gizon
Prolific strike pair Jon Saxon and Stuart Cartridge were on the scoresheet for Daisy Hill as they drew 2-2 with Flixton in Division Two. They were denied all three points by a late Steve Tobin effort.
