THE delights of Bolton's historic Hall i'th' Wood historic building and picturesque Rivington Pike are highlighted in new tourism travel booklets

The leaflets, Places To Go, have been produced by Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive - two for Bolton and another for Bury - showing visitors to the area where to go and what to see. One Bolton leaflet is called "Exploring Bolton and local attractions" and the other is called Rivington Pike and the West Pennine Moors.

Exploring Bolton includes information about historic sites and walks, and details of how to get to them on public transport.

The Rivington Pike leaflet also features walking routes and the leaflet for Bury highlights attractions in the town.

Exploring Bolton features Ye Olde Man and Scythe pub, Smithills Hall and a walk from Horwich to Barrow Bridge.

Cllr Barbara Ronson, leader of Bolton Council, said: "We welcome anything that promotes Bolton.

"We are very keen on the cultural heritage of the town and we hope many visitors will be attracted by these leaflets.

"The council is working on many initiatives to draw more people into the town, so anything that helps with that is welcomed."

In Bury, the East Lancashire Railway with its historic steam trains is hailed as a must see attraction, as is Bury market, Peel Tower and the Irwell Sculpture Trail.

GMPTE director Urvashi Bramwell said: "Greater Manchester has some fantastic tourist attractions, from picturesque countryside walks to places full of industrial history.

"We hope these booklets will make it much easier for people to explore the region using public transport.

"We have been delighted with the success of the booklets so far and hope they will encourage many more people to use public transport to visit places in the region that theyve never been to before."

GMPTE has produced a total of 15 booklets, also covering areas such as Ashton-under-Lyne, central Manchester, Dunham Massey, Macclesfield, Rochdale, Salford, Stockport and Wigan.
