WITH regard to the letter "Save our out-of-town store". Now the tables have turned.

And I quote, "ust like they (Safeways) didn't give a hoot for all the small shopkeepers they closed down when they moved to Breightmet".

It would appear that the customers, neither, gave a hoot about the small businesses forced to close over the years, as they did not show their support for the local shops, and went dashing towards the convenience of everything in one place.

Quote: "We used to shop in the out-of-town row of shops in Bury Road - you could get almost everything you required there".

My father owns one of the still (barely) running shops along the row opposite Safeways and, although the products supplied have changed, we still have, few, but still loyal customers.

Now the small shops have been replaced by unnecessary takeaways, the customers will have to travel out of town for their amenities.

That is how it is.
