THREE men from Bolton who were stopped at Liverpool John Lennon Airport on their way to watch England play have been charged with football disorder offences.
The men were stopped by Merseyside Police officers before boarding a flight to Belfast to watch the England World Cup match against Northern Ireland.
They appeared at Liverpool Magistrates Court charged under Section 21A and 21B of the Football Disorder Act 2000.
The three men are: Carl Dolphin, aged 36 of Willows Lane, Deane, Christopher Riordan, aged 25, of Orchard Avenue, Astley Bridge, and Marlon Hibbert, aged 28, of Belgrave Street South, Bolton.
Their case was adjourned for one week. All three men were given conditional bail.
The men were arrested by officers working in Merseyside Polices Football Intelligence Unit, which had stepped up surveillance of the airport before the match.
Last month, another man from Bolton, aged 28, was banned from travelling to watch the England football teams friendly match against Denmark.
The man, from the Astley Bridge area, was stopped by police at Manchester Airport as part of an operation to stop possible troublemakers from travelling to England matches.
He appeared at Manchester City Magistrates Court when officers started proceedings to gain a banning order against him. The hearing was adjourned until Tuesday, September 20.
People with banning orders have received letters in advance of England games reminding them of the conditions imposed on them - including surrendering their passport and attending their nearest police station on the day of the games.
