FAMILIES returning from holiday are urged to get rid of their travel brochures by recycling them.

Town Hall bosses say that a paper mountain grows during the summer months of magazines, catalogues and junk mail. They want residents to put those in the green bags for doorstep collection.

Councillor John Byrne, executive member for environment and transport, said: "The most popular thing to recycle is newspaper, but we need residents to remember that all kinds of paper can be recycled. With all the paper that's lying around, we can make September a bumper month for recycling, allowing us to reduce further the amount of Bury's waste that goes to landfill."
