PLANS to bring in charges for Bolton town centre parking on Sunday have been thrown into chaos ... because of a mix-up about what time the fees come into force. Notices have gone out saying that on-street pay and display charges will start at 8.30am and at 12.30pm in council-run car parks. The charges are due to come into operation this weekend, but Labour Cllr Jack Foster, planning and environment committee chairman, said: "This is not what we wanted.
"We wanted all the charges to begin at 12.30 and we are now trying to get it changed.
"It seems there has been a mix-up because we said that we wanted the charges to be the same as in the week and it seems they have taken this to mean that the charges would start at the same time."
But a spokesman for the council's car parks department said: "We have brought this in by following the minutes of the committee where this was agreed.
"It can be changed, but it would take weeks because it would have to go through committee and council again."
Tory leader Cllr Norman Critchley hit out: "This is a shambles. My understanding was that only the yellow lines came into force at 8.30 so that the town centre was not blocked up before shopping began."
