A MAN gunned down outside his Bolton home was arrested early today by detectives in a swoop on a Lancashire hotel. Barry Lomax, aged 38, was held by police after officers burst into a room at the Yarrow Bridge Hotel, Chorley.

Today police would only confirm that a man was being held at Bolton Central Police Station in connection with "serious allegations".

Mr Lomax was arrested shortly after 2am by a team of Lancashire police officers. He was sharing a room with a woman and a young boy.

The former bouncer had been wanted for questioning for several weeks and was arrested without a struggle. He was taken to Chorley Police Station before being escorted to Bolton for interviews.

Mr Lomax survived a gangland-style shooting six months ago. He was hit in the thigh at point-blank range as he sat in a car outside his home in Maplewood Gardens, Halliwell.

The gunman then fired a second shoot, but missed.

Mr Lomax underwent surgery but later discharged himself from hospital. He told the BEN just two weeks ago that he has now made a "full recovery" after the shooting.

Seven weeks ago a teenager was shot in a Great Lever street.

Gary Knox, aged 19 - also known as Gary Stewart - cheated death as a bullet passed within a whisker of his heart and lodged in his chest.

The gunning down of Mr Knox, who was outside his sister's home in Davenport Gardens, Great Lever, was the third shooting in Bolton in five months.
