ATHERTON LR 1 FLEETWOOD 0
ATHERTON LR kept up the push at the top of the Unibond Division One last night with a slightly fortunate 1-0 home win over Fleetwood. Gavin McDonald got the vital strike just 13 minutes into a game for LR in which centre back Lee Sculpher was once more outstanding and former Wigan Athletic mid-fielder Mattie Brookes had his best game since joining the club.
Left back Duncan Edwards was sent of in the second half along with the visitors centre back for foul and abusive language. LR club secretary Steven Hartle said: "It was a good win for us but we were lucky as to be honest, Fleetwood were well worth a draw."
FLIXTON 5 ATHERTON COLLS 0
ATHERTON COLLS face an absolute mountain of a task in the second leg of the Floodlit Cup after crashing 5-0 in the away leg at Flixton last night. The Alder House outfit did well in the first half to hold the runaway Division One leaders to just a single goal but four defensive howlers in the second half cost Steve Walton's side dear.
