MOTORISTS in Bolton have to contend with no fewer than four major road schemes at present.
While we accept that repairs must be carried out on major roads, we question the wisdom of doing them all at the same time.
Apparently highways chiefs have deemed that the work on the main roads is needed urgently. We find it hard to believe that the same degree of urgency arose simultaneously for all the roads.
A Bolton Council planning and engineering department spokesman said that because funds were allocated in April, many of the major programmes have to be carried out in winter.
We would point that that other towns seem to cope with their road repairs in a more sensible way. Surely some method of staggering the work could be introduced to save the time and tempers of road users.
