A MAJOR international conference on the transport needs of the North of England is to be held at the management centre of Bradford University on October 27.

It has been organised by the Northern Region of the Chartered Institute of Transport and is sponsored by Emirates, the international airline of the United Arab Emirates.

The conference theme will be Transport - Linking the North with the World.

It is intended to demonstrate that improved communications and economic expansion go hand in hand.

The main speaker will be Leigh-born Maurice Flanagan, group managing director of Emirates, who is a Fellow of the Institute.

Organisers hope that a major political figure will take part.
