SIR: On at least two occasions per day I travel along Beaumont Road with the intention of continuing up Victoria Road along the ring road. On numerous occasions this is severely impeded by vehicles stopping at the second signal (after the right turn) because they want to go straight-on towards Bolton town centre and all the rest of the traffic want to go with the green left turn filter light along the ring road.
I have thought for a long time that if the Council removed the large tree-lined island at the end of Beaumont Road, there is sufficient room for a roundabout or room to totally revamp and improve the junction. However I can immediately prophesy the cries of 'we have not got the money' coming from the Town Hall. Well, if that is the case then perhaps they can afford a large tin of white road marking paint.
I believe very few local people could tell you 'off the cuff' the highway numbers of the relevant roads, and yet this is all that is painted on the road! Surely if you paint Ring Road in the centre lane and Town Centre in the right hand lane you would give drivers a far better chance of being in the correct lane at the junction.
I accept that no measures will stop bad drivers but those suggested give everyone else a chance.
